This Coffee-Brewing Alarm Clock Wakes You Up in More Ways Than One

Because waking up is hard to do and coffee really helps with that, some genius from London has invented a fancy alarm clock that will automatically brew your coffee for you! Formally known as The Barisieur, we’d like to think of the new machine as our own personal bedside barista.

First incepted in 2014 by designer Joshua Renouf, the coffee-brewing alarm clock resembles that of a high-tech contraption you would find in a chemistry lab. With a time-telling base and a platform boasting a stainless steel funnel and glass beaker, The Barisieur is built to brew fresh coffee and tea, and it automatically begins after the sound of your first alarm goes off.

So, how does it all work? Before bedtime, users of the machine can place coffee grounds into the machine's reusable mesh filter. Once the sound of your alarm goes off, a boiling vessel activates and streams water over the coffee grounds and into a glass cup. The alarm clock also comes complete with chilled milk storage, a sealed drawer to store sugar, and a USB port for charging your phone.

While the coffee contraption may not prove to be easier than say an automatic Keurig, “[The Barisieur] encourages a ritual in order to establish a routine before going to sleep, signaling to the body and mind that it is time to unwind and relax,” Renouf wrote on his Kickstarter campaign website.

With over $180,000 raised through crowd-funding thus far, manufacturing for The Barisieur should take about a year, with a retail price of $387 and release date set for some time in 2017.
