Thanks to a doughnut chain in the Midwest, you can have a trick with your treat.
Hurts Donut took the odd recent interest in creepy clowns—spurred on by the remake of the film It—and used it to help people play terrifying pranks on unsuspecting friends, who at least got doughnuts out of the whole ordeal.
On Monday and Tuesday of this week, Hurts Donut in at least four cities—Springfield, Missouri; Frisco, Texas; Lincoln, Nebraska; and Wichita, Kansas, where there are two stores—offered “Scary Clown Deliveries.”
“Wanna scare the sh… shprinkles out of your friends?” the Hurts Donut Facebook pages for three cities asked last week.
The results are pretty hilarious.
Most of the deliveries in the videos shared to Facebook take place in offices. They were well worth the extra five bucks.
“Who did something rotten to you that totally deserves this?” read another Facebook post, adding the hashtag #Lookwhatyoumademedo.
While we couldn’t find the offer on the Lincoln location’s Facebook page, they might have come up with the funniest delivery.
According to the Wichita Eagle, local franchise owner Trista Patterson “said that her clown is intended as a more general terrifying Halloween clown rather than a recreation [sic] of Pennywise,” the scary clown from the film, based on the Stephen King novel.
“This one lady was so funny,” Patterson recalled. “She called and said, ‘I just want to scare the crap out of my kids. You have to come to my house.’”
While the offer has ended, the doughnut chain could be bringing it back, so long as the demand is there.
“Side note!” the Frisco location wrote on its Facebook page. “If we have enough interest in surrounding communities, let us know in the comments below, we may pick a day for out of town clown deliveries as well!”
