The Carolina Reaper ascended to "hottest pepper in the world" status in 2013, when the Guinness Book of World Records officially found its average heat level to be 1.57 million Scoville Heat Units, with the hottest Carolina Reaper measured at an amazing 2.22 million SHU.
That's more than store-bought pepper spray (2 million SHU).
All of that is to say, it takes a brave individual (with hopefully dull taste buds) to eat one of the wrinkly, red, ping pong ball-size death nuggets.
But to smoke one of these record-breaking peppers? That kind of task calls for the self-proclaimed "Fire-Breathing Idiot."
That would be Ted Barrus, whose YouTube channel almost exclusively features videos of him smoking weed or eating peppers. For this recent video, he combined the two hobbies.
And at least he went into it knowing the worst was coming. "I've done a lot of stupid things on the internet," he says before the endeavor, "and this is probably the dumbest thing I have ever done."
He was right to assume things wouldn't go well.
True to his moniker, he tried to wash it down with water. You'd think "a professional" such as Mr. Barrus would know water only makes spicy foods even spicier. Milk next time!
If you just found out you love watching intense spiciness cause people great deals of pain, watch this guy eat "the spiciest noodles in the world" or this psycho bathe himself in hot sauce and chilies.
