While concocting your own ale may sound complicated, SodaStream’s “Beer Bar” is a no-fuss brewing system that mixes sparkling water with beer concentrate containing 4.5 percent alcohol per serving. For now, only one beer variety called Blondie is available, and it’s said to have a “smooth authentic taste, and a hop filled aroma.”
"We are excited to launch a brand dedicated to serving the global growing trend of home crafted beer," said Daniel Birnbaum, CEO of SodaStream. "Our core carbonation technology and distribution infrastructure provide a great platform for us to extend our business into this emerging category, and we choose to do so with a dedicated beer brand."
For now, the home brewing beer machine is only available in Germany and Switzerland, but the company has high hopes for reaching other markets by 2017. Ever since the announcement of the Beer Bar, SodaStream’s stock has been up by a whopping five percent.
One liter of the Blondie beer concentrate yields three liters of beer, and is going for €2.99 on the company’s website. At $3.34 USD, that’s a lot of beer for your buck! Let's hope it reaches the United States soon – so we can forever say goodbye to all those late night beer runs.
