Someone at Starbucks deserves a vacation – either because they’ve earned some time off, or because they’re so overworked that they’ve started making weird decisions. Or both.
Following the surprise hit that the Unicorn Frapp became earlier this year, the coffee company has announced yet another bizarre chilled coffee that’s if anything even weirder than the idea of drinking a handful of pink sparkles.
The new Pepper Nitro with a Jerky Twist is exactly what you’d expect from a drink of that name – it’s a serving of Starbucks’ popular nitro cold brew, that’s infused with malted fennel black pepper syrup, before it’s topped with honey foam, and sprinkled with peppercorn.
Oh, and then the barista throws a chunk of beef jerky in there too. Because at this point, Starbucks will do anything to get attention.
If you’re the kind of person who has to try anything Starbucks makes, no matter how stupid or disgusting it sounds, then don’t head to your nearest store hoping to get the local bean jockeys to mix one up for you – unless, of course, your local Starbucks is the Reserve Roastery in Seattle.
A longstanding beacon of experimental ideas, the Reserve Roastery has a reputation for bringing customers drinks that are a bit more unusual than most Starbucks offerings, which is probably why someone decided to throw the remains of their lunch into a coffee and call it a new drink.
Either way, this is one of those beverages that could disappear from sale at any minute, so if you happen to be in Seattle in the near future and you want to try this, bear in mind that it probably won’t be a permanent addition to the menu.
Alternatively, feel free to make your own by buying a bag of Jack Link’s and plopping a chunk into your next coffee. It’s basically the same experience, right?
