It all started when farmer and fisherman Gilberto ‘Chito’ Shedden was on the banks of Reventazón River. It was a peaceful day, but he had no idea that he was in grave danger. Right in his path, a huge crocodile was staring at him.

20. A Morning Stroll
Back in 1989, Chito was walking close to the river, when he locked eyes with a crocodile. But, instead of being attacked by one of the most terrifying predators in the world, he got friends with it. Wait, what? Yes, you read that right.
How did that moment end up with the man and the croc becoming best buddies? Wait until you see the whole story!
19. A Fierce Hunter
Who doesn’t know that crocodiles are fierce hunters? Their strong jaws and speed make them perfect killing machines. Would Chito be on this guy’s menu? The man had no idea what to expect, but he was aware of the danger he was in.
However, the animal didn’t seem to move at all…
Then, it dawned on him – the crocodile was on the brink of death.
18. Overcoming His Fear…
As soon as Chito overcame his fear, he got closer to check why the beast wasn’t moving. The crocodile was huge but quite skinny. He also had a serious injury to the head, probably a gunshot.
Someone shot this reptile and left it to die – probably a rancher that wanted to defend his herd.
Chito’s first thought was that he couldn’t just let the crocodile die. So he took a bold decision…
17. Let’s Go Home
Chito and a few friends took the animal on their boat and went back home to Siquirres. You can imagine that it was nothing like bringing home an injured puppy… His family wasn’t thrilled to see the beast in their yard.
ButChito wanted to help the animal recover and then send him back into the wild. Little did he know that the reptile had a different plan.
