4th Grader Finds Flaw In Test And Gets Suspended
As the little girl stepped up to the podium, people began to snicker and pass comments. She was so tiny, it was difficult for anyone in the audience to take her seriously.
As she began to speak, the adults’ expressions began to change. There was something about the way she commanded room after that. She was the student but they were all about to be taught a lesson.
A Happy Child
Sydney Smooth was no ordinary child. From a young age, her mother Jennifer was acutely aware of this fact. She also knew that every parent probably felt the same way but she had good reason.
Not only was her little girl academically ahead of every child at school, her fierce intellect sometimes even surpassed most adults. Jennifer’s favorite part about Sydney was that she also possessed a cheerful and happy personality.
So when she came home in tears one day, Jennifer was deeply concerned.
The Problem
Jennifer asked her little “peanut” what was wrong. It took the child a few moments to get over her sobbing. Her eyes were still red and splotchy when she finally began opening up.
Sydney explained that her day had been an ordinary one for a fourth-grader at first. The problem began when they were given standardized tests. At first, all Sydney would say was that she said something about it and got yelled at by her teacher.
Straight Shooter
Since Sydney was only 9 years old, her extraordinary intellect sometimes intimidated and even angered others, especially adults. She was sometimes seen as being “too big for her boots”.
Even now, as she explained to her mother in great detail why the class’s common core standardized test was flawed, her own mother was taken aback by it. However, it was what Sydney said next that really stunned her mother.
It Got Worse
According to Sydney, the class was given a test and required to sign it. They were further expressly forbidden from speaking to anyone, not even their parents.
Sydney could not abide by this instruction and be told to go to the principal’s office. When she refused and went on to explain everything that was wrong with the education system, she was suspended.
