Lucy Liu Wants You To Know She’s Done With Hollywood
Hollywood is an interesting place. It’s where dreams are created and superstars are born. It chews people up and spits them back out.
It can be difficult for even the most thick-skinned individual to handle and, when you’re living in the public eye it can be impossible to stay in the good graces of the Hollywood set.
For Hollywood legend Lucy Liu, she knew just how well Hollywood can take a toll on you and your soul. All it takes is one wrong decision and it can ruin your career in the blink of an eye.
And unfortunately for Lucy Liu, it was in 2017 when she made a rash decision; a decision that would turn her world upside down.
A Strong Work Ethic
Multilingual Lucy was born in Queens New York but she didn’t learn to speak English until she was 5 years old.
Born to Chinese immigrants who only spoke Mandarin at home, Lucy’s parents wanted a better life for their children so they left their jobs in China behind and came to the United States.
They raised their kids with a strong work ethic and a kind heart. They expected their kids to grow into strong, independent, and driven people.
But Lucy’s parents could never have expected their daughter to get wrapped up into Hollywood and its seedy underbelly, full of disturbing behavior and secret exchanges.
Stranger On The Subway
Lucy never went out in search of an acting career, instead, it came to her. One cold winter morning, Lucy was riding the subway in New York when just as she was leaving the carriage, a man approached her and told her that she had a good look for television.
At first, she didn’t believe him, but after she found out he was legit she took his advice and booked her first commercial, and the rest is history! But little did Lucy know, this man would force her to do something.
Something that would cause shame on her entire family.
Shame On The Family
In 1997 Lucy was performing in a Los Angeles strip club for a month. But it wasn’t to earn a few extra bucks, no. It was because her agent booked her a role in the film City Of Industry, where she played the role of an exotic dancer.
At first, Lucy’s parents were ashamed of their daughter, they thought their whole world had been turned upside down. But they were wrong. That was to happen a few years later.
Working On The Side
Like most famous actors Lucy didn’t become a success from day one; she had to work numerous jobs while working on the side. She worked five days a week as a secretary and part-time as an aerobics instructor on the weekends.
It was a lot of work but it kept Lucy in shape when she finally got the call for her first significant role. She was excited to learn on the job, learn more about the industry she had always dreamed of working in!
But there was something else she would soon learn. And it was something that would leave her seriously second-guessing her career choice.
