Amazing Historical Photos That Show A Different Side Of History

If history has taught us one thing, it’s that the unexpected was preferred. Or maybe it was just that people did the best with what was available at the time.

From articles teaching women how to get a husband to images showing Albert Einstein and his little sister when they were kids, we’ve gathered some of the most surprising and thought-provoking images from the past.

Not only do they show what technology was like at the time, they also show how everyone from the rich and famous to the President of the United States lived with it.

Join us as we walk down memory lane to look at these amazing historical photos that show a different side of history.

Katherine Switzer Running the Boston Marathon in 1967

In 1967, women still weren’t allowed certain rights. One of those things included running the Boston Marathon. When Katherine Switzer registered, she used the name K.V. Switzer, which didn’t clue officials in that she was, in fact, female.

Rather than let her race, marathon workers tried to physically remove her from the race. An official by the name of Jock Semple had to be tackled by Switzer’s boyfriend so that she could finish.

And she accomplished it all, despite the fact that her college coaches labelled her a “fragile woman.”

Albert and his sister, Maja, were the two children of Pauline and Hermann Einstein. Maja was Einstein’s only friend growing up. They were separated when she went to elementary school in Milan; her brother stayed behind in Munich with relatives.

She lived in Italy for years with her husband until Benito Mussolini introduced anti-Semetic laws in the country. She reconnected with her brother, Albert, and moved to the US to live with him.

Unfortunately, she suffered a stroke in 1946 and passed away in 1951.

For those who aren’t big fans of the Star Wars world, Ewoks are a race of short, furry, bipedal creatures who hail from the forest moon of Endor. They first appeared in the 1983 film, Return of the Jedi.

Although CGI was already around, its use wasn’t popular until the late 90s, so people were employed instead. These Ewok actors brought the creatures to life by acting in hot and stuffy suits for 12 hours a day.

Two casts of 66 little people were responsible for making these lovable, remote creatures a reality.

Early Passenger Airplanes of the 1930s

Today, it’s almost nothing to hop on a plane for half a day or more to travel halfway around the world. But in the 1930s, things weren’t nearly as convenient as they are now, even with the sky-high prices modern-day folk have to deal with.

But the price of air travel was also high back then, even though most argue that it was worth in. Planes were changed around in that decade from wood to metal, interiors were upgraded to have more space and some even came equipped with comfortable sleeping arrangements.

Those changes were welcomed since a flight to Australia could take almost two weeks, with more than 20 stops.
