There are a lot of people who are worried about artificial intelligence taking over the world. People like Elon Musk and Stephen Hawking have warned about the dangers of rapidly advancing technology, and they think it could lead to the downfall of humanity. And it looks like the takeover is taking its first steps, because Amazon’s Alexa-enabled devices are randomly and creepily laughing at us.

Many people reported the creepy electronic behavior and are extremely unnerved by the situation. Especially since it happens randomly throughout the day, and you’d never expect your electronic device to burst out into laughter when you’re just sitting at home, doing nothing and not interacting with the device.

Amazon has admitted there is a problem with the device. An Amazon spokesperson told the Verge, “We’re aware of this and working to fix it.”

Luckily for those people who have been experiencing this problem, our Amazon overlords are working to fix the problem.

I am not sure how comforting it is to know that Amazon was completely unaware of this problem until several people started tweeting their experiences and noting just how damn creepy it is. It seems like they are taking the problem seriously though, and hopefully a fix will come in the near future.

Until then, just know that Alexa is watching you and laughing at you.
