Hate your boss? You’re not alone. There are tons of people who look at their higher-ups with disdain every single day of their life. Their interactions with their supervisors cause pains in their chest, and nothing seems to let that stress out. Until now, of course. A recent study found that having a voodoo doll of your boss can boost staff morale, and rightfully so!

Apparently, having a doll that represents the person who brings you the most stress and stabbing it repeatedly will calm the nerves. In fact, it has now been researched at Wilfrid Laurier University in Canada. The study found that stabbing a doll of your boss eases stress and heals the mind. This is in large part because employees often feel like they are not allowed a measure of revenge against their boss.

“We found a simple and harmless symbolic act of retaliation can make people feel like they’re getting even and restoring their sense of fairness,” said assistant professor Dr. Lindie Liang. “It may not have to be a voodoo doll per se: theoretically anything that serves as a symbolic act of retaliation, like throwing darts at a picture of your boss, might work.

Symbolically retaliating against an abusive boss can benefit employees psychologically by allowing them to restore their sense of justice in the workplace.”

Their findings were published in the Leadership Quarterly, and they say the simple act of stabbing a symbolic doll of one’s oppressive and tyrannical boss not only benefits the individual, but the whole company.

“These findings suggest that retaliation not only benefits individual victims, but may also benefit the organization as a whole, given that justice perceptions is important for employee performance and well-being.”

So take out your stress on a little doll that is supposed to be your boss. Maybe you’ll get a promotion out of it!
