Gigantic Athletes That Make Everyone Stop And Stare
There are people who practically make the gym their second home while desperately wanting to make their bodies bigger and stronger — and then there are those who seem to have already been born with enormity.
For the latter, being huge is not something they aspired to be; they just naturally had it in them, whether it’s genes or some hormonal spurt.
While such individuals are considered giants by the normal folk, these people did not let their size bring them down, so to speak. Instead, they decided they would rise above everyone (literally, at that) and turn their uniqueness into a life win.
You might not know, but some of the most enormous individuals this world has seen have made quite a career in sports and fitness.
Wrestling: Andre the Giant
French pro wrestler Andre the Giant is literally one, standing at 7’4”. He is best known for his long-running career in the World Wrestling Federation, figuring in iconic matches against the likes of Hulk Hogan and Yokozuna.
Andre weighed a whopping 520 lbs at the height of his fame.
The reason for his unusual size was not natural, however. Andre suffered from acromegaly, which eventually caused his death at 46 years old.
Aside from his WWE stardom, he also appeared as one of the key characters in the 1980s cult blockbuster “The Princess Bride” alongside Carey Elwes, Chris Sarandon, Mandy Patinkin, and Robin Wright.
Boxing: Nikolai Valuev
Called “The Russian Giant,” Nikolai Valuev is to boxing what Andre the Giant is to WWE. He stands 7’ tall and weighs 328 lbs, making him a behemoth in the ring. If one of his punches land on you — you are guaranteed knocked out.
Valuev is not just a publicity stunt for the sport, though, because this guy can throw some serious power and technique. He has a 50-2 record and is, as of this writing, the biggest boxer to ever become champion.
Before his left the sport, his last major win on the ring was opposite Evander Holyfield.
MMA and Kickboxing: Choi Hong-man
It seems every type of ring has a giant pro athlete competing in it. In the case of kickboxing and mixed martial arts, we have South Korean Choi Hong-man.
Choi weighs around 365 lbs and stands at 7’2”, earning him the monickers “Korean Colossus,” “Techno Goliath,” and “Korean Monster” among others.
His stint at the MMA was not so successful, however, as he had lost to smaller (but obviously more skilled) fighters like Mirko Cro Cop.
Bodybuilding: Ronnie Coleman
American professional bodybuilder Ronnie Coleman isn’t called the God of Olympic Gods for nothing. The guy stands at only 5’11” but weighs around 300 lbs and with arms that measure 24”!
Even Arnold Schwarzenegger has nothing against this legendary bodybuilder. Coleman is considering the GOAT of the sport, having won the title of Mr. Olympia eight times and winning the IFBB by a whopping 26 times.
