Awkward Marriage Proposals Shared On Reddit Are Either Genius Or Incredibly Uninspired

Not all marriage proposals are the same. For example, some people go over the top, concocting elaborate plans to surprise their significant others.

But while some like to keep it simple, there are a ton of people that turn a memorable moment into something we’d rather never remember. EVER!

Reddit user Champagne_tatertots asked others on r/AskReddit “What’s the worst marriage proposal story you’ve ever heard?” These stories show us that even though some of the proposals were bad, things worked out in the end.

“My parents were in the produce section of a grocery store when my dad said, ‘All our friends are getting married, we should too.

’ My mom (thinking he was joking) just said ‘yeah’ and moved on with shopping.” – u/craziekitty

Little did her mom know that he was not kidding, and days later, she asked him if he was serious. His response was too good:

“He responded, ‘Well yeah, I thought we were engaged now!’ 34 years later and they’re still married.”

Nobody likes spoilers, and Reddit user SheZowRaisedByWolves recalls a specific proposal which turned wrong because of a stranger’s nosing around:

“My cousin’s marriage proposal was ruined because the person next to them at a booth told my cousin’s girlfriend that he saw my cousin writing the marriage question underneath the table cloth while he was in the restroom (she was supposed to lift it up and see it later on).”

Reddit user Exaggeration17A wrote about a proposal story he heard from his ex-girlfriend. After the guy asked her to bring him the phone from the bedroom and a glass of water, he asked one more thing:

“Another minute passes. ‘Hey, can you bring me that pair of socks on top of my dresser?’ She got the socks…the ring was in the socks. He proposed. He actually thought he was being romantic.

She thought it was weird.”

She said yes and they’ve been married for 10 years!

Here’s another ‘inspired’ guy that wanted to prove his girlfriend wrong. Reddi user debod49 talks about his friend’s proposal:

“About six months before graduation, he told her he wasn’t sure about the move or their relationship. She turned around to cry. He called her name and, when she turned back, he was on one knee.

Did it just to surprise her.”
