Vet’s Guide To Popular Pet Store Items That Should Be Left On The Shelf
Any dog owner knows the plethora of choices any time you walk into a dog store. Everything seems colourful or delicious – the perfect treat for a doggo.
But, Dr. Hunter Finn, a vet who posts advice on social media, warns owners that not everything on the shelf is safe to take home.
Rawhides

Specifically, rawhides with double-layered ends.
Not only are these an absolute choking or surgical hazard, but they are often treated with chemicals such as bleach (to get them that bright white color). However, they can also have sharp ends that could hurt the doggo’s tummy.
Super-Hard Treats

If a dog is a hard-core chewer, that’s fine. However…
That doesn’t mean that “harder is better”. The rule is, if you can’t slap it against your kneecap without it hurting, or can’t make a fingernail indentation in it, it’s too hard and could possibly break teeth.
Pig Ears

The main issues with these, is the fat levels.
They can lead to obesity, vomiting, and diarrhoea. There’s also a high chance of bacterial growth. All of this can increase chances of renal disease in pets.
