Mom Finds Old Spanish Plate On Beach, Then Gets A Call From The Airforce
In 1715 a Spanish fleet (now called the Spanish Treasure Fleet) was scuttled off the coast of Florida during a hurricane. Since 1961, many different salvagers have started to recover the treasures along this stretch of coastline.
Passtime
This stretch of Florida’s coast is known as the “Treasure Coast” and many exciting finds have been made along the beaches of Martin, St. Lucie, and Indian River. This makes it a popular location for beachcombers.
Growing Popularity
Many locals in this area have started to take up beachcombing due to the thrill of possibly finding something, even gold doubloons. Jayne Wilson is one such local who made a discovery on the beach in April of 2019.
Plated
Jayne had been scouring the beach for fun when she stumbled across a barnacle-encrusted plate. She was so excited to find this piece from a long lost ship that she took it home.
Months later she discovered that it wasn’t what she had expected at all.
Sea Glass
Jayne is a private home health aide. She loves to walk along Vero Beach at sunrise. One morning she came across a flat brown object lying on the beach.
It looked like a giant “veggie patty.” She loved to collect sea glass and decided to take it home and clean it up.
