Bizarre Things Spotted By Astronauts In Space

Astronauts get to see the Earth from above, they have a breathtaking view of the stars and experience much more weird stuff than the rest of us here on Earth.

But some experiences are unexplainable, and there are at least a dozen of astronauts that have been creeped out by what they’ve seen in space.

Some reported seeing strange lights, objects, UFOs, weird noises and more. Was it only their imagination or actually signs that extraterrestrials do exist?

20. Apollo 10 Astronauts and the Alien Music

In 1969, American astronauts Tom Stafford, Gene Cernan, and John Young were in the Apollo 10 mission, on the far side of the moon.

They were taking photos of craters and suddenly they heard strange noises in their headset that were similar to music:

“Boy, that sure is weird music,” Commander Cernan said. “We’re going to have to find out about that. Nobody will believe us,” replied John Young. The music is still a mystery decades later.

19. Yang Liwei’s Creepy Knock-Knock Story

An astronaut heard “someone knocking the body of the spaceship just as knocking an iron bucket with a wooden hammer.” The ‘lucky’ astronaut is Yang Liwei, the first astronaut sent into space in 2003.

He looked outside to see what knocked into the ship and there was nothing there – plus, since space is a vacuum, there should be no sounds from outside the ship.

Liwei wasn’t the only astronaut hearing the knocking – in 2005 and 2008 two other astronauts heard it too!

18. Story Musgrave Saw a ‘Space Eel’

NASA astronaut Story Musgrave saw something like an eel swimming in space. He didn’t see it just once, but twice. Musgrave believes the object had its own propulsion mechanism and doesn’t think it was space junk.

17. Vladimir Kovalyonok – The Eyewitness of a UFO Explosion

Maj. Gen. Vladimir Kovalyonok was on the Salyut VI space station in 1981 and saw something strange in a porthole: “The object was the size of a finger. I was surprised to see it was an orbiting object.

[…] Savinykh prepared to take a picture of it, but the UFO suddenly exploded. Only clouds of smoke were left. The object split into two interconnected pieces. It was reminiscent of a dumbbell.

I reported about it to the Mission Control immediately.”
