Boy Fishes Out Old Purse From Water, Calls Police When He Peeks Inside

It was just another fishing trip for the boys and they had prepared for pretty much a lot of chilling and less reeling. But that one afternoon was special — and definitely one for the books.

It started with a lot of yelling and waving, particularly when he saw his rod bend into a deep curve that can only mean one thing: there was something huge at the other end.

He rushed to help gain control, as the sheer force of that something was not something his nephew could handle alone. Nobody could have prepared them both for what they had found that day.

As they slowly pulled the reel in, careful not to lose it, they saw a waterlogged and leathery shape emerge from the water slowly. It certainly wasn’t fish.

What Started as a Typical Trip

It was a special fourth of July fishing trip for 11-year-old Brodie Brooks. Finally, he had been invited to go into the water with the older boys in the family.

He had just gotten a brand new rod for his birthday, and that was the time he was going to test it out.

However, what should have been a grand fishing adventure turned out to be one of the oddest moments in this kid’s life. He had come to the lake looking to catch some fish, but what he got was something else.

The Waiting Game

Brodie and his uncle rode their boat out of Lake Hartwell in South Carolina, hoping to give the young new angler an adventure of a lifetime.

After setting up their equipment and getting ready to wait for something to bite, the men sat back and chatted lazily.

Little did they know, that one lazy and relaxing afternoon would eventually have them racing to call the cops.

Bringing it In

Ben Myers was intent on giving Brodie a great experience with his new fishing rod. He showed the young boy how to attach bait and the proper way to angle the reel out into the water to maximize results.

Since it was his first time, Ben didn’t really expect his nephew to get anything. But all that changed when the little boy starting yelling that he’d gotten something.

When he realized what Brodie has reeled in, all that excitement turned into fear. His eyes were fixated on what was coming out slowly and, frankly, it was nothing he ever prepared for.

What’s That?

“It was bobbing my rod up and down. It was also quite heavy and felt like a really huge fish,” Brodie exclaimed.

His Ugly Stick was brand new, so he was filled to the brim with excitement that his first foray into the water was turning out to be huge deal.

“I was so scared that my rod going to break and snap.”

When the leathery shape came out, it appeared to be an old bag. Its weight and bulk also indicated that something was inside. Without hesitation, Brodie opened the zipper. But when his eyes laid upon its contents, he called for his Uncle Ben.
