Woman Breaks Off Relationship After Seeing Engagement Ring
Laura could never have imagined that her joy would evaporate from her body as soon as she looked down at the ring Tom had gotten her. She was disappointed as she stared at the thin golden band with the tiny diamond attached to it.
She averted her gaze, hating the fact that this rubbed her the wrong way. She was used to receiving expensive and flashy gifts from everyone around her, except for him. Why couldn’t he make an exception for her this one time?
End Goal
It had been eight years since Laura agreed to go out with Tom and ever since then, she had dreamed of building a life with him. She admired that he was driven and resourceful, he had big dreams for the two of them.
They had never spoken about marriage before, but Laura knew that that was the end goal, at least, it was her end goal. But when he finally popped the question, she was forced to hide her disappointment.
High School Sweethearts
They were high school sweethearts. Tom had played in the school band and Laura was a cheerleader. All her life, her family and friends had expected her to go for the boys on the football and basketball teams, but Laura ended up choosing Tom.
He was everything she could’ve asked for in a romantic partner. She loved that he was funny and sweet, he had excellent grades, musical talent and he had a swimmer’s body.
But she never expected that he would do such a terrible thing just eight years later.
Growing Up
Laura came from a wealthy family, her parents were happily married, they lived in a great house and she had wonderful siblings. She was the youngest child which means that she was pampered all her life.
But Tom’s upbringing was a little different. He was the eldest child in a struggling family that lived in one of the poorest sides of town. He lived with his mother and little sister, and they were all he cared about for the longest time.
Fend For Himself
All his life, Tom’s time was divided between school and taking care of his mother and sister. His mom had cancer which meant that she was constantly in and out of the hospital.
Because of this, Tom and his little sister had to learn to fend for themselves.
But through all of this, Tom managed to keep his educational career polished. Unlike most of the kids around him, he knew exactly what he wanted to do with his life. This is what attracted Laura to him in the first place.
