Man Only Told Real Identity At 67
He had lived the majority of his life unaware of his identity or his origins. He wandered around like a ghost as if he existed only in his own mind.
He felt a familiar worry creep through him as the cop neared. Already, life was a daily struggle. He was unsure of what would happen next. Instead, the meeting would change his life irrevocably.
Struggles
He knew no other life than the life on the streets. He had lost his memory as time progressed. He had more immediate things to focus on, however, such as what he would eat.
A challenging circumstance was made immeasurably worse by his inability to recall who he was or how he came to be in that position. He just knew what he could infer. The indications suggested that he must be someone.
A Reminder Of Who He Was
The man was carrying a worn-out, subpar guitar. Once he took it up, he thought that it might bring back some memories for him to hold onto. It, unfortunately, didn’t.
With the instrument in his hand, he didn’t instantly recall any significant insights about his past. Only that was familiar, though. No backstory or recollection of how he acquired it. He felt let down, but then something incredible occurred.
Muscle Memory
A memory did come back as soon as he touched the strings and began to pick at them. There was no remembrance of who he was or the significance of his guitar.
It was an instinctive, visceral memory that had been stored in the darkest corners of his tormented mind. Muscle memory was at work. His fingers started to play a tune practically by themselves as soon as he touched the guitar.
Flashes From The Past
He was suddenly aware of his guitar-playing abilities. He kept himself busy for a while by daydreaming about his former life as a musician. He yearned passionately for some remnant of a previous life, even if it was just his name.
Occasionally, flashes of memories from the past appeared. Though he was aware of having held a job previously, he could not recall what it was. It wasn’t long before these concerns were overshadowed by a more pressing issue.
