On October 21, 1967, Calvin Klein welcomed a bundle of joy into the world. As the daughter and only child, of the legendary designer you might expect that Marci Klein grew up in the lap of luxury, however, you would be wrong.

Marci was born when Klein was only 35 years old. At the time he was virtually unknown. He had dropped out of New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology and had to find another way to make ends meet.

As a result, Klein worked as a designer for several small retail shops.

Changes

Fortunately, Klein’s fortunes would change a year later due to a business partnership with a childhood friend, Barry Schwartz. After releasing his first designs they caught the eye of a Bonwit Teller department store.

They quickly snapped up his designs and it wasn’t long before his clothing was in demand.
