Charles was used to being in the public eye as the heir to the throne. When he married the well-loved Lady Diana Spencer, it seemed to be a match made in heaven. After the fairytale wedding, it seemed like happily ever after. However, the seemingly perfect couple went their separate ways in 1996.

20 years since their split, Prince Charles finally shared his thoughts on their failed marriage.

Even though she was no longer in line to become queen, Diana was well-loved by the British public and seen as a hero. Her charisma and charm made people the world over fall in love with her.

Their divorce came as a huge shock but when the true story came out it was clear that it was a doomed marriage from the start.

Charles was a highly sought after husband of course. He was a member of the Royal Family and the heir to the throne, so women were queuing to try and snag him as a partner. He enjoyed the attention but would ultimately need to find someone to be a suitable queen.

Charles had been linked to many women through the years including Georgiana Russell, Davina Sheffield, Lady Jane Wellesley, and Diana’s own sister, Sarah Spencer. Charles met Diana in 1977, but it would take a further three years before the two started a romantic relationship.

Once they did, not only did the media go crazy over their connection, but his own father urged him to propose to Diana. In February 1981 Charles proposed to Diana who was 13 years his junior.
