Stuart’s brows drew close as he glanced closer at what he’d found. Birds had always calmed his mind, and in return, he usually left them gifts.

He never expected anything else from the birds apart from their presence. But this crow had left him something that made his lips part. He had no clue this was the start of a string of surprises.

Stuart Dahlquist had always had a special relationship with a birds which started when he was a child. Now a 56-year-old senior, his intrigue had only grown stronger.

Crows delighted Stuart more than any other bird. His fascination was deeply rooted in a need to know all there was to know about these spectacular birds. He thought he understood everything about them, but he’d soon learn he’d only scraped the surface.

Stuart’s love for crows was as seasoned as he was. He’d even domesticated a crow which he’d named ‘The Judge’ as an homage to a character from Blood Meridian, which had been one of his favorite series.

The Judge had been like no other pet Stuart had. He was fun and energetic, with a loyalty that no one could ever replicate. He gave Stuart immense joy for more than a decade.

Among the many fascinating facts about crows is their ability to hold grudges. The birds can go as far as plotting their revenge and making sure their victims know they are out for blood.

For Stuart, a different, lesser-known side of these majestic creatures would present itself. He would learn that crows could also be generous and gentle in equal measure.

Crows always held a special place in Stuart’s heart. Although he viewed birds of all shapes and sizes as essential to the world’s ecosystem and in his life, crows were among his favorites.

Recalling his experience, Stuart shared, “I love watching them, listening to their calls, identifying them, and helping them if they need help.” But despite his love for birds, Stuart didn’t have equipment like high powered binoculars that other ‘true birders’ carried.
