As the woman escorted her puppy out, the vet called, “Can I see you for a moment?” She narrowed her brows as she replied, “Of course.” Had he not assured her everything would be fine?

Her husband patiently waited outside with his eyes darting. 

The revelation he would make would rock her world.

However, Cammy, Vanessa’s labradoodle pup, was supposed to have a routine checkup. 

Her checkups would always happen on the first Monday of every month.  

Despite Cammy’s dislike of vet visits in the past, she now enjoyed them. However, this one would be different, revealing that Vanessa had been deceived her entire life.

Venessa And Don

As Vanessa Hayes, Cammy, and her husband, Don, drove to the vet, she hoped to complete one more task on her to-do list.

Having been married for two months and loving it, she couldn’t wait to be back at home cuddled on the couch watching a good movie.

As far as chores and errands go, piling them up is never a good idea. In order to get to town as quickly as possible, Vanessa gladly took the shortest route with her family strapped in.

In Motion

In motion, the dark leaves of trees were blurred by. The quaint old buildings of Coupeville, Washington, caught Vanessa’s eye – a sight that always made her cry.

In her memory, she recalls the first time she visited this place. It had been ten years since her dad, a navy man, had promised her this would be the last move they would make.

However, he had also said one thing that she should have taken seriously.

He had said, “Coupeville is perfect for hiding or starting over. With its towering trees, stunning, timeless buildings, and its Penn Cove, I’d run away here if I were fleeing anything or anyone.”

She assumed that this was just another case of Vanessa’s dad being a hopeless romantic. 

In that visit to the veterinarian, his words rang true.
