Embarrassing Oscars Moments That Celebrities Probably Want To Forget

The Academy Awards, also known as the Oscars, are generally believed to be the most glamorous, prestigious, and high profile event of the year.

Bur, just like with any other awards ceremony, they have seen there fair share of awkward and meme-inspiring moments.

Jennifer Lawrence’s Fall

No one can argue that Jennifer Lawrence was one of, if not the, biggest “Oscar darling” at the 2010s awards seasons.

She picked up a Best Actress award for turn in Silver Linings Playbook, as well as getting nominated for her roles in Winter’s Bone, American Hustle and Joy. She also earned a title as one of the clumsiest stars.

The Reaction

As she walked up to collect her award in 2013, she got caught in her dress and fell down in front of everyone. Hugh Jackman and Jean Dujardin both jumped up and ran to help the star.

During her speech, Lawrence made light of the situation, going so far as to say that the standing ovation she received was only out of pity.

The Streaker

Showing some skin is nothing unusual at the awards ceremony. Neil Patrick Harris famously stripped down to only his underwear during the 2015 ceremony when he spoofed a scene from Birdman, the film that took Best Picture that year.

However, in 1974 there was another, albeit unscripted, display of nudity.

The Reaction

David Niven was interrupted while introducing his guest presenter, Elizabeth Taylor, when Robert Opel, a photographer who worked for a LGBT magazine called The Advocate, ran onto the stage naked.

Niven, ever the professional, didn’t miss a beat and merely remarked: “But isn’t it fascinating to think that probably the only laugh that man will ever get in his life is by stripping off and showing his shortcomings?”
