Firemen Rescue Tiny Pups, But When Mom Steps In It’s Too Late
It is a firefighter’s key responsibility to be always at the ready to go on dangerous rescue missions when a fire breaks out. These days, however, a fireman’s job is no longer limited to just dealing with fires and saving the lives of humans.
It is also part of their task to ensure that every living thing, even a domestic or wild animal, is out of harm’s way.
When they are called to duty, firefighters don’t really know what lies ahead, and they just deal with the danger as it happens. Such is the life of a brave hero; every day offers an element of surprise, as well as something to look forward to.
The missions are long and dangerous, but it is in the firefighter’s heart and soul to be of service to those in need — so they will go above and beyond to make it happen.
Such is reflected in a beautiful story about a group of firefighters in Colorado. After they had gotten all possible life forms out of a huge fire, they noticed something strange about a bundle of pups they had just saved.
Started As A Normal Day
It was just like any other day for the team at the Colorado Springs Fire Department. As always, everybody was alert present and alert for any emergency that might be called in. All tools and equipment are prepared and the truck ready to be used.
But that day would be different from any other they’ve had. One phone call turned things around.
Not A Typical Rescue
It was a regular day in March and the team was busy chatting about the adventures they’ve had in previous rescue operations. Since the day started quietly, they were looking forward to what the rest of the morning and afternoon would bring.
All of a sudden, the emergency hotline rang and they got what they were looking for.
On the other end of the line was the voice of a woman who frantically pleaded for help as some animals had been trapped. Without knowing the gravity of the situation, the team immediately rushed to the location with all their equipment.
Firefighters know that time is of the essence when it’s an emergency you’re dealing with, so there’s no time to chat. They boarded the truck and drove as fast as they could to the site.
Worrisome Sight
En route to the site, they each recounted in their heads all the protocols and precautions they need to take. Frankly, they did not know exactly how much fire they were going to face and if there are others that might need rescuing.
The caller said there were some animals trapped, but it was too early to say whether the job would be easy. In addition, handling animals in distress was a different story altogether.
Much like us humans, animals have different responses to crises. Some manage to remain calm while others turn hysterical and violent.
The firemen didn’t really know what types of animals had been trapped and the extent of the emergency they were going to deal with. They just knew that they need to be prepared mentally and physically for anything that might happen.
The Preparation
As they neared the site, the fireman found themselves feeling tense. So many thoughts raced through their heads, particularly on what types of animals they were going to save.
Since the fire was within the city premises, they initially assumed the rescue mission would involve domesticated animals kept as pets, but they also did not discount the idea that it might be a wild animal, too.
They needed to be prepared somehow and take the necessary precautions. After all, a fireman needs to be safe first in order to be capable of saving others.
They were experienced in rescuing animals in the fire, but it would be premature to think that everything would be a breeze. Still, they came prepared for what they might face amid the heat and smoke.
They had saved many an animal from burns, injuries and smoke inhalation before. They were confident about their capabilities.
