Woman Buys “Rare” Cat, Calls 911 When She Finds Out Truth

Shayla strokes Benji, her cat and he lets out a purr. She couldn’t believe it. As she traces her finger on his rippled and dry skin she can feel her heart pounding and her cheeks blushing. How could somebody do this?

Especially to something so innocent and sweet like a cat? She kisses Benji on the forehead and picks up her phone. She knew what she needed to do.

The Cat Of Her Dreams

For as long as she could remember, Shayla had always wanted a Sphynx, better known as a hairless cat. The breed is a designer feline developed through selective breeding back in the 60s.

Due to the designer aspect of this breed, Shayla would need to go through a breeder to obtain her new kitten but Sphynx cats are expensive and can cost up to $1,000! Nevertheless Shayla was determined to get one, no matter what.

Looking For A Breeder

Bursting with excitement Shayla started her search for her new kitten, looking in the Alberta area for a Sphynx breeder. A few weeks went by and Shayla was having difficulty due to the expensive nature of reproducing a hairless cat.

There was one which seemed perfect but the seller decided to back out last minute. Frustrated, Shayla knew she decided to look elsewhere.

An Offer She Couldn’t Refuse

In the process of hunting for her new kitten, Shayla stumbled upon the website Kijiji, an online classified site.

When browsing through the website, Shayla was amazed to find the price for a hairless kitten was about half of what others were asking for! It was too good of a deal to resist!

Little did Shayla know she should have resisted this “deal.”

The Exchange

Shayla got in touch with the person responsible for the classified add. The seller, whose name was Maureen, was pretty straight forward over the phone and had quite a stern attitude.

The two arranged where and when to meet and Maureen demanded it was cash payment only. And so, when the two met at a nearby parking lot Shayla handed over the cash to Maureen in exchange for her kitten, but a feeling of uncertainty crept upon Shayla.
