Born in the Dominican Republic, Samantha Sepulveda is a typical New Yorker. Her mother moved her family to the U.S. when Samantha was 5 and worked in a factory to support them.

Sepulveda didn’t start out wanting to be a cop. She studied for an MBA in finance at Hofstra University before changing her mind about her future career. Ultimately, she decided she wanted to give back to the community, so she enrolled in the police academy.

Back during her time at college, Sepulveda played for her school’s lacrosse team. It shouldn’t come as any surprise that she was formidable on the field. She racked up an impressive number of goals across her games, becoming the seventh-highest scorer in her team’s history.

Life in the Force

Upon graduation from the academy, Sepulveda joined the Freeport Police Department in Long Island. Her new job wasn’t easy, because she was a lot smaller than most of her male colleagues. But Sepulveda, an ardent feminist, pushed through to earn the respect of her peers.
