Innovative Approach Curbs Trespassing By Discouraging Yard Cutting
Trying To Push Him Out
As he stared at the mess on his freshly mowed lawn, he grew increasingly frustrated. Streamers, paper cups, and food were all spread across his yard.
Who would act in such a manner? It had only been a few weeks since he had moved into the area. Were they trying to get him out of there?
He couldn’t believe his fate as a first-time homeowner.
His First House

Terrence Jenkins just bought a gorgeous two-story house in Madison, Wisconsin, with a spacious yard. After finally being able to call his own place home, he was delighted, but his excitement was fleeting.
Terrence noticed that people were continuously cutting through his lawn the first few days after he moved in.
Initially, there was no problem with the foot traffic on his grass, but as time went on, it became a daily annoyance.
Putting In The Work

For his family’s future, Terrence bought a new home in a quiet neighborhood. The fact that he now had his own place excited him.
Keeping his home in good condition and repairing it took him hours. It soon became apparent that the constant stream of people cutting through his lawn was overshadowing his excitement.
People were disrespecting his property at an alarming rate.
Trying To Understand

In the beginning, Terrence tried to be understanding. It may have been a matter of not wanting to take the long way around because people were in a hurry.
As time went on, it became clear that this was a recurring issue. Tire tracks and footprints washed across Terrence’s carefully groomed lawn every time he arrived home from work.
The people who did this were purposefully doing it.
The First Attempt

It seemed like everyone walked or rode a bike across Terrence’s property every time he looked out the window. After enough time had passed, he decided to post a sign on his lawn.
“Keep Off The Grass” In his opinion, this would discourage people from using his yard as a shortcut, but he was wrong.
They were unaffected by it.
