20. Sisters Moving In

After the divorce, Big and Little Edie grew really attached to each other. They were inseparable. When Big Edie became ill in 1952, Little Edie decided to move in with her in the estate they owned known as Grey Gardens.

The stories from the Grey Gardens add one of the darkest chapters in the Kennedy family history book. The mother-daughter duo moved into Grey Gardens but it was made clear from the first day that they couldn’t afford living there.

18. Stray Cats

During their 25 year residency at Grey Gardens, the duo became extremely isolated from the outside world and it’s reported that they barely left the property.

In order to cope with their isolation, the duo decided to adopt stray cats and very quickly their home was filled with stray cats. Some reports state that there were more than 75 stray cats living with the Edies.

Having all these stray cats in an extremely big mansion with limited financial resources meant. only one thing…. that they Edies would soon run out of resources -and power-  to keep the mansion clean.
