The desk that makes the focus of this story belonged to a 94-year-old man. His son decided to clean up this house and find valuable objects to sell in order to raise some money for assisted-living care.

The son contacted Marg-e Kelley who is the owner of Kelley Auctions. Of all pieces of furniture from his father’s house he chose a Governor Winthrop desk who he thought was most valuable.

In order to establish the true value of the desk, he needed Marg-e’s help.

At first look, Marg-e didn’t consider the desk was extremely special or out of the ordinary. “The desk that we took in, we see them every day practically”, she said. However, the Governor Winthrop desk was placed on the action in Holbrook.

Phil LeClerc is an antique enthusiast who lives in Weymouth, a local town only 20 minutes from Holbrook. When he saw the beautiful desk, he fell in love with it immediately.

He just had to have it since it would’ve made a great addition to his home. But little did he know… he was in for a surprise!
