Man Hears Crying Dog, Follows Him To Street Corner

Jonathan felt his heartbeat quicken in his chest as he followed the animal. He knew this was risky, but he had no way of knowing that he’d end up in this situation. He wasn’t the best at handling bad scenarios considering he lived alone.

He had made it to the street corner and had to muster up the courage to bend down. There was no mistaking what he had to do, but there was no turning back from it.

Stray Animals

New Mexico is known for its stray animals. Stray dogs are the animals seen most often. There are between 130,000 and 165,000 that are put into shelters every year. Jonathan was no stranger to seeing these animals on his hometown’s streets of Albuquerque.

He had never given the dogs much thought as they were part of his everyday life, but that would change one day when his instinct took over and made him follow one of them. It led him to something that would forever alter his life.

Working Man

Jonathan Maestas was like any other working man who woke up at 8 AM every morning for work. He worked as an I.T consultant at an office in Albuquerque and made the 2-mile-long trip to work by walking every day.

He was 18 when he moved out of his parent’s house but never turned back. After getting his job, he found a small place to rent, but life still seemed to be a drag. Jonathan didn’t expect his dull life to change so soon.

The Same Routine

Jonathan’s walk to work was usually dull, but that day was sunny, making the walk feel short. As he walked through the neighborhood, he greeted the retired elderly, mowing their lawns and passing joggers when he passed by.

He had longed for something interesting to happen on his walks, tired of the same routine. But Jonathan should have thought carefully about what he wished for.

Barking

Jonathan had woken up to a Monday like any other. He showered before grabbing a bite to eat and rushing out the door. Although it was a sunny day in Albuquerque, he had to force his feet forward on his way to work.

He heard barking while walking but was unfazed by the noise. He knew it was another stray, but he didn’t realize that stray would change his life later in the day.
