Man Pays For Woman’s Groceries, The Next Day He Gets A Note

He Didn’t Deserve This

Kasey read the note over and over. He couldn’t believe this. He kept thinking of the day before, trying his best to figure out why this was happening.

He had done nothing out of the ordinary, at least, nothing that could warrant this. All he’d done was help an old lady. Why were they taking this so seriously? He felt he didn’t deserve this.

Texan Hospitality

There is nothing Texans take more seriously than hospitality, at least, that’s what Kasey Simmon’s mother had taught him. Growing up, he had always respected those around him, and his caring went far beyond his family.

The day started like any other. But on this warm, Texan morning, Kasey had no clue what a simple act of kindness would lead to after he helped a stranger.

Making Small Talk

It all happened at a Kroger supermarket. Kasey had noticed the old woman with bloodshot eyes. He wanted to step up and help her, but he didn’t want to make her feel uncomfortable.

He stood behind her and casually commented on the warm weather. He then told her not to “look so down” and commented that she was a “beautiful lady.” He could tell that she was now more upset than before.

Making Jokes

She grimaced even more than before now, but Kasey was not easily deterred. She reminded him of his own grandma. He couldn’t stand to see her so upset.

He did his best as he tried to crack some jokes, trying to make her smile. But he never could have expected her reaction. Instead of smiling, she started crying even more.

Something Finally Happened

He was now far too invested in this. He grew sad seeing how upset she was. He had to help her. Others might’ve given up and left her alone by now, but he couldn’t bring himself to leave her in this state.

He tried his hardest, acting the fool for her benefit. He was set on changing her mood. After trying for what felt like an eternity, something finally happened.
