Goodwill Bag Is Heavier Than Expected, Then Mom Finds Hole In Lining With Camera Inside
If you love shopping at consignment stores, then you’ll love the story of this woman who stumbled upon an interesting find at Goodwill, one of the most popular of such shops in the United States.
One day, she heads into Goodwill to look for a diaper bag for her baby, but then ended up having so much more than what she expected.
At first, what she found was just the perfect bag to stash her child’s things in. But the chain of the events that followed was something straight out of a TV documentary that some people might even find incredible.
Bargain Hunting Mom
Sarah Thomas considers herself a true pro when it comes to rummaging through thrift stores and finding awesome deals. In fact, visiting Goodwill was something she did several times on a weekly basis in the hope of landing on a super find.
That particular day, she was on the lookout for a diaper bag for her baby and had stumbled upon this lovely piece that was perfect for what she needed. She hurried over to the cashier excitedly and paid for the item.
However, when she got to her car, she realized that something was off.
Rummaging for A Living
Because Sarah had a true knack for finding diamonds in the rough at thrift shops, she decided to make her semi “addiction” into a living.
In fact, she owns an online shop called Sarah’s Southern Oregon 2nd Hand Deals, where she resells anything of value that she finds at Goodwill stores.
Everybody loves a prized second-hand find, so she has a steady stream of customers and quite a following online. From children’s wear to vintage decorative pieces, her goal was to find and showcase items that could still be of use to others.
Treasures From Donations
Perhaps the best part about finding stuff from Goodwill is that all items come entirely from donations.
It’s a win-win situation for buyers (and even those who are in the reselling business) as it does not cost anything to monitor inventory and its stocks change weekly.
However, goods from donations can also come with a risk — it’s that you never really know what you’re getting until you have it. Sometimes, discoveries about the history of an item or its past life surface well after it’s been purchased.
Shopping As Therapy
While much of what Sarah shops for at Goodwill is for her store’s inventory, she loves looking for items that she and her family could use as well.
She admits that the twice-weekly trips to the store aren’t really all about looking for things to sell, but more because she feels a certain sense of calm while sifting through the racks.
Whenever she feels stressed, she just heads over to the shop to walk around, sometimes not really purposely looking for something.
So when that day came that she needed a diaper bag — and found a perfect one on sale — she was over the moon at her great luck.
