A loud scream echoed through the house, followed by the sound of the knife landing on the floor. She jumped back in horror, her mouth wide open. How was this possible?

At first, she thought it was her imagination. She slowly took a step forward and looked at it in bewilderment. She called out for her husband, he needed to see this too.

Joel lived a happy life with his wife Minni, they were comfortable in life even if they didn’t have the most extravagant lifestyle.

They like to grow their own food in the wonderful garden that they tended to every day. They also loved to fish in the lake that was close to their house. Every meal they made with their own homegrown ingredients.

One Fateful Day

They didn’t find getting their own food to be a chore at all. For them, it was a peaceful hobby that so happened to put food on the table. It also meant unique opportunities to spend time with each other.

But one peaceful afternoon they would catch something in the water that wasn’t quite what they expected.

Unwanted Fish

Bowfin is a fish that not many people find appealing. It’s locally called Trashfish, that should be everything you need to know about this fish. But luckily Joel and Minni knew a few tricks to making Bowfin quite tasty.

The secret wasn’t very complicated so they didn’t mind catching a Bowfin on their most recent fishing trip. They would prepare it nicely and have a good meal, or so they thought.

Cleaning Ritual

“Looks like it’s going to be fishcakes and baked potatoes today!” Joel smugly said as he examined what he had caught.

They got home and put the fish on their cutting board to be prepped by Minni. She had cleaned hundreds of fish but would find something quite unexpected inside one of them.
