Baby Girls Found On Sacred Ground, DNA Finally Cracks The Case
Irrefutable Evidence
When he finally found the evidence, he couldn’t believe he may have actually cracked the case. Three long years, two sets of remains, an isolated village buried in the woods… After years of being mocked for his “wild” theories, he finally had something to prove he was right.
But as he stood over the grave, he couldn’t go any further without asking God to forgive him for what he was about to do.
Middle Of Nowhere
Ben Potter began working on the case back in 2006 when he was first called onto the scene at the Upward River Sun site in central Alaska. Dealing with morbid findings wasn’t unusual for Potter.
But what first made the hair on his arm stand on end wasn’t what he would find, but where he found it: deep in the cold, dark forest of Tanana River Valley – an isolated place accessible only by helicopter.
Obsessed
Ever since they found the first body, Potter had become obsessed with the case. “I have a child roughly the same age as the one we found. It made it even eerier; brought it home,” he said in an interview after the case was solved.
But the young father was in way over his head. His first step was to reach out to the local indigenous community to see if they could shed some light on the mystery. But they wouldn’t touch it – out of sheer terror.
Charred Remains
The infant remains were found at the top of what appeared to be a fire pit. It was like nothing they’d seen before. “We couldn’t compare this to anything,” Potter said.
“Because nobody’s found anything like this before.” The three-year-old’s body was so badly charred, it was impossible to extract DNA from it.
As he explored the area, Potter realized he wasn’t simply looking at a site used to burn bodies in the middle of nowhere. People had actually lived here. But where had they gone?
Abandoned Village
Near to where the body had been found, Potter found evidence of dwellings that suggested there was a living, breathing community built around the fire pit. Had he stumbled upon some kind of cult?
Why had they burned hunting weapons made from bones and antlers? With no leads, Potter was at a loss. Then, three years later, he discovered something else in the village that would blow the case wide open.
