New Crazy Dinosaur Facts Challenge Everything We’ve Known About The Prehistoric World
Humanity has always been interested in knowing more about the ancient world. Its mysterious animals recorded in legends and old stories have made people look for the truth behind them, and then we discovered that the dragons in our tales were actually real!
They were the dinosaurs from millions of years ago, and fossils of these ancient creatures still baffle scientists.
We know there’s a lot of similarities between dinosaurs and birds, but a lot more question remained unanswered.
In the past few years, paleontologists have uncovered some wild hints about dinosaur species we never knew before, and the conclusions are quite crazy!
20. Archaeological Discoveries Challenge Old Theories
Dinosaur researchers have uncovered fossils and studied them for generations, but new discoveries have been made and they seem to challenge the old theories about the prehistoric world.
New dinosaur species have been found, adding more details to the general knowledge about dinosaurs. Here are some shocking new facts about dinosaurs you never heard before.
19. A Tiny T-Rex Cousin
This fossil belongs to a dinosaur species called Suskityrannus hazelae, which was alive around 92 million years ago.
At only 3 feet tall, after more fossils of this species have been found, scientists realized that the Suskityrannus is actually related to the huge T-Rex!
The two species, although their sizes are very different, are related: the two have strong feet an jaws to crush their prey.
18. The Archosaur Lizard King
Before T. Rex was the king of Antarctica, the king was Antarctanax shackletoni (translated into “Antarctica King”). It lived around 250 million years ago, and it was around 4-5 feet long.
According to the head researcher at the Field Museum of Natural History (Chicago), Brandon Peecook, the creature “doesn’t have any adaptations in its feet that would make [him] think it lived in the trees or that it’s a burrower.”
17. The Ledumahadi Mafube Was the Largest Animal in the World
Twice as big as the African elephant, the Ledumahadi Mafube was the biggest animal on Earth, weighing in at 26,000 pounds. It was related to the brontosaurus and lived around 200 millions years ago.
It used to live in today’s Argentina, and CNN describes it as having crouched and thick forelimbs to support the body.
The Ledumahadi Mafube might have evolved from two-legged ancestors, and when it switched to a vegetarian-based diet, it evolved to walking on four legs to adapt its digestive system.
