Cop Pulls Over Car, But His Life Changes When Driver Rolls Down His Window
Officer Michael Patterson gets out of his car in the hazy heat of the August sun. The very epitome of authority, his weapon hangs idly at his hip, with the street reflected in his overly-large sunglasses.
He walks towards a white BMW and taps on the tinted windows, indicating the driver to roll them down. He does and Michael’s pulse starts to pound. Sweat trickles from his forehead and lands on his crisp, blue uniform.
He takes a step back but the gravelly tones of the driver’s voice flow to his ears like a cold tide, “Can I help you?.”
A Normal Day
When Michael Patterson began his day, he presumed that this day, like all the others, would be a normal day. Most of his work as a state trooper was to keep the roads and highways secure.
He spent a great part of his day pulling over individuals when they broke the rules. Yes, Micheal thought today would be like every other day. But he had no idea how wrong he really was.
Thinking Of His Mom
Micheal sits in his car and nibbles on a freshly glazed donut. As he licks the sugar from his lips, he starts to think about his mom. It was her birthday today and he had always had a special relationship with her.
You see his dad, also a police officer, left them before Micheal was born. And so, every year on her birthday Micheal would get his mom a cupcake, and every year she’d blow the candle out and repeat the same story of the remarkable night she gave birth to Micheal.
It was a night that changed everything.
A White BMW
Micheal’s thoughts are shattered by the sound of a song of the radio. He turns it up and lets the music wash over him. Then he notices a white BMW on the other lane next to him.
The BMW wasn’t speeding or driving erratically, instead, the car had windows that seemed to be tinted beyond the legal limit. He decided to pull the car over and check it out.
Micheal was positive that the driver wouldn’t mind, it’s not like the driver had anything to hide… right?
Pulling Over
To turn his sirens and lights on, the 26-year-old state trooper flipped the switch and performed a stop. The driver was immediately notified that they were being pulled over and stopped at the end of the highway.
The driver, Matthew, was waiting for the usual scenario; an unfortunate fee to be paid and an officer scolding. But that wasn’t what happened. Far from it.
