The Fabric Cabinet Hack We’re Not Supposed To Do

The Yeses And Nos

There are plenty of great furniture/fabric hacks out there.

Many of them will look fantastic. Others might looks like cool ideas but are actually big no-nos. One in particular is really bad if you’re renting the place. Here are some tips and tricks to explore you’re way through this DIY.

No – Some Glues

Some people might not have a proper staple gun.

In that case, glue is often the next best thing. However, if you’re renting the space, glue can end up making you lose your security deposit. Plus, staples are often better because they leave more room for fixing mistakes.

Yes – Measurements

Granted, fabric can be more of a forgiving medium.

But always do at least a tracing or rough measurements before cutting. Also, try your best to make the cuts even and nice – this way the inside seams will look better when you finish them (especially if they will be something that people could see).

No – Nails

Nails aren’t bad, but they’re bad for most of the delicate of thinner fabrics.

Staples give better anchorage. Thumbtacks are often used for some additional decoration, but they shouldn’t be the fixing point – there should be staples on the back or in key places.

Yes – Good Hardware

If fabrics and DIY are going to be a regular thing, it’s better to invest a little in some good hardware.

Easy-to-use staple guns don’t cost that much. They will also save your hands and wrists the extra strain.
