Top Rare Pictures Of Your Favorite Wrestlers Unmasked
There’s a sense of mystery in wrestling when it comes to wrestlers and their masks — they add a hidden identity to the character. The wrestlers themselves take a back seat while their masks create their own roles.
They give these roles a persona, their own mannerisms, and a back story. But these roles often have the opposite personality of what the wrestler’s true identity is.
As hard as they’ve tried, for many years wrestlers have kept their true identities a secret. But now we’ll look at some well-known wrestlers and who they are underneath their masks.
50. Mr. Wrestling
This wrestler may be before most people’s time, that’s understandable since he’s one of the industry’s oldest wrestlers. The man walked into the ring in 1962, although he started wrestling under the name Tim Woods.
With growing success, he decided to redesigned his character into Mr. Wrestling, personified by his iconic white mask and his white singlet.
49. Último Dragón
Último Dragón in Spanish means “The Last Dragon”. This Japanese wrestler was renowned for his fighting. He started out in his home country of Japan, training hard every day.
After a while, he wanted to be trained by professionals and decided to move to Mexico where there was a huge wrestling scene. This is where he perfected his move “Asai Moonsault”.
He was climbing through the ranks, beating out his competitors, so he moved to an even bigger wrestling scene: America. Even though he didn’t do as well in the U.S., avid fans of wrestling know his name.
He has a few records under his belt, like the longest championship streak.
48. The Road Warriors
Tag team wrestlers The Road Warriors, also known as Legion of Doom, fought in many leagues and world championships.
The men behind the masks were Michael Hegstrand and Joseph Laurinaitis, but on some occasions, other wrestlers would stand in for them. But finding their doppelgangers wasn’t easy. At one point, The Road Warriors were actually 9 different people.
The personas weren’t even masks but rather facepaint, although sometimes this would rub off while wrestling.
47. Glacier
Glacier is quite reminiscent of Sub-Zero from Mortal Kombat. The wrestler was inspired by the ice ninja and his character is an homage to him. Fans instantly fell in love with the character.
Glacier refused to fight without a mask, keeping his identity a secret. But after his retirement, he left the mask behind him.
