Remember when you thought going to science class was a huge waste of time? You only took it to fulfill a requirement and you dreaded going to the class every time. Science is so boring. Well, unless you’re one of the researchers who is developing a new pill that lets you examine your farts in real time.
A group of Australian researchers have developed an ingestible pill that allows you to check out what’s going on when you’re tooting. It monitors gas levels in the human gut, and it all connects to an app on your phone.
The scientists hope to help us all understand what happens when we are farting up a storm. What causes the toots, when we can expect them, and how many we can expect to come out of our butts.
Early trials of the pill have shown positive results, and the researchers are excited about the prospect of studying farts more. They will test different types of foods and drinks to see what makes us gassy.
The capsule is 26mm in length, with a 9.8mm external diameter, kind of similar to a vitamin pill, and incredibly easy to swallow.
Researchers have tested the pill on six people and have seen their research rewarded with useful data. For the first experiment, the pill was in the body for around 20 hours, recording data from the patient, and found a lot of interesting results. They manipulated the diets of the other five test subjects to see how food would affect the gassiness of a person.
One has to wonder — how useful is this knowledge exactly? Who knows? But maybe it can help us understand our farts a little better.
