Pilot Slumps At Controls So Wife Has To Fly Plane

Helen’s calm demeanor on the radio was a far cry from the emotional roller coaster she was riding. Her heart fell all over again when she turned around and saw her husband.

She was once again reminded of how she was alone at that very moment. She knew that it was possibly her last moment if she was unable to keep her composure.

They Had A Good Life

Helen and John Collins left Florida a couple of hours ago. Their final day there had been the cherry on top of a wonderful few days of sun, sea, excellent food, and good company.

The couple was able to live a life that many wish they had. Visiting a new city every week is an option for them. However, how did they manage it?

John had many years of experience as a pilot. Though they were retired, they owned a Cessna 414 twin-engine plane. He was a former pilot with over thirty years of experience.

John had even flown for “Angel Flight,” a non-profit organization that provided free medical flights to indigent people. John never imagined he would find himself in need of an emergency flight after hundreds of successful flights.

 Living The Dream

The couple has been living the dream since John retired. They were both well into their 80s, but they frequently went on holidays with their closest friends. When these holidays were held in other states, the pair frequently flew there themselves.

Despite thoroughly enjoying their trip to Florida, the couple was eager to return home because someone very special was awaiting them.

Where It All Went Wrong

John and Helen lived in Wisconsin and were set to land at Cherryland Airport in Sturgeon Bay. Their son, Richard Collins, would be waiting for their arrival.

At the beginning of the flight, everything went well. But once the plane was over the vicinity of Green Bay and Sturgeon Bay, everything started going terribly wrong.
