It’s embarrassing. It’s not something anyone would wish for themselves or even their worst enemy. But on Feb. 11, 2018, it happened. It happened in the sky. A plane had to emergency land because a person’s farts were so bad. I repeat: A passenger couldn’t contain his flatulence, and the smell was so bad that it caused an emergency landing of the aircraft.
The Transavia flight in questions had to find an airport to accommodate the emergency landing because an unnamed man’s farts were so noxious that it started a brawl on the plane. The flight from Dubai to Amsterdam landed in Vienna so everyone on the flight could calm down after the incident.
Two passengers sitting near the flatulent man complained to the man, they complained to the crew, they complained to just about anyone who could hear. And what did it get them? The captain issued a warning to the two complainants, accusing them of “noisy and aggressive behavior.”
After that, a fight broke out. The complaining customers had enough of sniffing farts and a kerfuffle began. The flight landed in Vienna and ejected the two men who had complained about the farting. Two women sitting in the same row as the angry men were also forced off the plane.
Transavia released a statement regarding the brouhaha, and it’s amazing that a company had to release a statement regarding farts. “Our crew must ensure a safe flight. If passengers pose a risk, they immediately intervene. Our people are trained for that. They know very well where the boundaries are. Transavia therefore stands squarely behind the cabin crew and the pilots.”
Any way you look at it, this was a big victory for farters everywhere. Let it rip. And if people get violent, they will be reprimanded. Plus, it’s healthier to let it slip as opposed to holding your farts for long periods of time. That’s just science.
