They Had To Turn The Plane Around When He Stood Up And Said He Was Infected
It was every traveler’s worst nightmare. They were about to take off when a man on the plane made a shocking confession that sent the entire plane into panic mode. The man had claimed to be infected with the coronavirus.
The Man
28-year-old James Potok from Canada was aboard a Westjet flight from Toronto to Jamaica. That was when he suddenly stood up and made an announcement that shocked everyone. He stated that he believed that he might be carrying the coronavirus.
Travel Plans
Potok declared that he had recently traveled to China and had started to feel ill. Neither of these statements was true, however. The reality was that he was trying to win internet fame. “I had my camera with me,” he told Canada’s Global News.
He was hoping to film a viral video with this “prank”.
Backfire
“I was looking to get a viral video. I was looking to get it up on all the social-media platforms,” he admitted.
However, his plan backfired and instead of creating a viral sensation, he caused a panic amongst the passengers and crew that caused the pilot to turn the plane back toward Toronto.
Taking Measures
The crew on the plane immediately made Potock put on a face mask and gloves hoping to prevent him from spreading the virus to anyone else. Even once he told the crew that he was “just kidding”, they refused to take any chances.
