Police Dog Gets Fired For Being Too Cute, But Then Gets the Dream Job
Most of us think of dogs as good boys or girls! No matter how many pieces of furniture they chew, or how many times they went through our garbage, we still love them and cannot be mad at our dogs.
It’s their innocent eyes and happy behavior that gets them out of trouble.
But when a German Shepherd that got into the police academy, it was expected he’d be a good K9 unit. The goal for him to be good at his job, not NICE!
So the officers had to take a tough decision…
20. A Cute Puppy
Let’s admit it – all pups are cute and cuddly. When Gavel the German Shepherd puppy from Australia was only six weeks old, he was recruited by the Queensland Police. He’d make for a great K9 unit, considering his parents had a good line.
19. Following His Family’s Heritage
It ran in the family, Gavel’s father was also a K9 unit at the Queensland Dog Squad. Little Gavel was going to train for 16 months, and then he would have been ready to track and sniff out any criminals.
18. Counting on Gavel
The police force was counting on Gavel to complete his training and join them. His foster handler was Queensland Sergeant Hansen, who said that the pup “is confident, with no nervous tendencies and shows willingness to retrieve, a prey drive, ball drive and can be motivated by food for a reward.”
He’d be perfect for the job! Or so they thought…
17. A Star Pup
It sounded like Gavel was a great student, having performed excellent in all tests. Before his training began, he was the companion of Governor Paul de Jersey and his wife, who took him to an event dedicated to the Queen’s 90th birthday, in 2016.
That was a pretty big day for the pup.
