Here’s What Kind of Place $1,500 Rent Will Buy You in 25 Major US Cities

For many, the idea of paying $1,500 rent seems ridiculous. Especially if you want to live alone. For others (like those working in the tech industry, say), $1,500 is nothing.

Regardless, that rent in different US cities will buy you wildly varying living spaces. So, depending on where you live, here’s what you’ll be able to get for $1,500 a month.

What you’ll get: 525-square-foot studio.

New York is one of those great American crapshoot cities where your desire to walk alone at night can vary from block to block.

But who could say no to hardwood flooring and granite countertops in a space built like a dorm room, but for grown-ass adults?

Los Angeles, California

What you’ll get: 400-square-foot studio.

Unless, of course, you’d prefer the more industrial, hipster feel of concrete under your feet, along with the privilege of shared laundry. In which case sunny LA is the city for you.

Chicago, Illinois

What you’ll get: 784 square feet, two bedrooms.

Head a little further into the midwest and you’ll certainly stretch that dollar a bit more. Double the square footage, plenty of amenities, and the feel of a big city (if you’re into that sort of thing).

Houston, Texas

What you’ll get: 1,310 square feet, 3 three bedrooms.

Everything is bigger in Texas, or so the saying goes. Turns out, that saying is 100 percent correct. If you’re looking to get some real bang for your buck, you’re going to have to head south.
