In 1836 a sewer worked was performing some routine checks beneath the city of London when after completing his tasks for the day, a strange old drain caught his attention. It was cold, bizarre and not like anything he’d ever seen before.
He was so curious to see what was inside of and he decided to investigate the old drain not knowing that this decision would change his life dramatically!

The country of England found itself in a very tight situation after its defeat in the Battle of Beachy Head in 1690.
William III who reigned at this time couldn’t borrow sufficient money for the country to recover from its defeat and there were no public funds available. That led to the founding of the Bank Of England in 1694.

By founding the Bank Of England William III managed to raise the required funds for the economy to recover by issuing bank notes against government bonds that lenders could buy with cash.
This turned out to be a big turning point for the country, helped the development industry and made England a big power in the globe. But how is all of this connected to what the sewer worker found?
