Squatters Break Into Soldier’s Home While He’s Deployed, Then They Learn Their Lesson
Soldiers work hard for their country and hope for a safe and calm homecoming. John McKee felt the same way after his time in Afghanistan. But when he got back, something seemed wrong. He found something unexpected in his own home that made him feel unwelcome.
Even though he felt threatened by what he found, he decided to share the find with his friends on the police force…
Serving His Country
John McKee grew up in a military family. His dad was a veteran like his father before him, and his cousins had all followed in their parents’ footsteps. It felt only natural that John too would serve his due diligence in the army, and he officially joined the Marines when he was 25 years old.
When he joined the forces, his family was more than supportive. And after a few years of serving in the United States, he was stationed in Afghanistan. While John and his family were proud of him for serving his country, John couldn’t help but dream of the day he could go home for good.
Coming Home
Finally, that day arrived, and John couldn’t have been happier. He had seen enough violence to last a lifetime, and he dreamt of a simple life. Luckily, he saved up enough money that with the help of US Military subsidies, he was able to purchase a quaint home for him to return back to.
His family and his house were all John could think about from the time he boarded the aircraft that would fly him home to the moment he stepped off the plane. However, nothing could prepare him for what was to come when he arrived home.
Something Feels Off
John looked out the window with a sense of relief, the mowed lawns and quiet neighborhoods a welcome sight after his deployment. However, as soon John stepped out of the cab in front of his house, the relief he felt at arriving home was quickly replaced by suspicion.
Something felt off, and after years of relying on his gut instincts, John knew not to ignore a bad feeling like this. He dropped his bags by the front of the house so he had free use of his hands if he needed them, and slowly, he crept around the side of the house to enter through the back door.
Not Locked
John’s eyes swept across the backyard as he rounded the back of the house. It looked overgrown and messy, but he didn’t think that was odd. After all, he hadn’t been there in a while, so it was bound to be a little unruly.
He turned back to the house and reached for the doorknob at the same time as his hand went to his pocket to retrieve his keys. To his surprise, the knob easily turned before he could even use them, and John knew his bad feeling had been correct. Why was his door unlocked?
