Staff Realize Cat Has Special Abilities When It Chooses A Patient
Bedside Manner
She seemed fine, but something was wrong. She hadn’t been herself. The medical staff did not have any answers for them. But there had been someone who did. Joanna was beside the bed with her children, hoping that she would get better.
That’s when they heard a jingle heading their way, and that’s when she saw their cat, Monet. He had been glad to be reunited with his owner. He hopped onto the bed and looked into Joanna’s mother’s eyes. What had happened next shocked them all.
Her Time
She had been concerned about her mother’s well-being, Anna Du Bois. Her health had been slowly declining for years, even before she moved to the retirement home. Anna had been in her late 90’s when she decided to share a secret with Joanna.
But Anna refused to see the doctor. She had explained to her daughter that she was ready if it should be her time and would do more harm to fight this thing. Anna preferred it this way.
An Appointment
Her decision was hard for Joanna to accept, but it hadn’t come as a surprise. Her children have kept her going until now, but it had been time. However, perhaps she still had a few things to learn about life and death.
Her mother’s ailments had become worse in the span of only a few months. Anna had been very ill, and Joanna felt that she had to make an appointment and get the opinion of a doctor.
Grandmother’s Cat
Anna had been very close with her cat, but unfortunately, there had been no pets allowed at the nursing home.
That meant that
Joanna knew that her mother did have one thing going for her. It was her cat, Monet. Unfortunately, the nursing home didn’t allow pets, so Joanna had looked after Money for the last three years.
At least her kids loved having Monet around. They loved having “grandma’s cat” around. They could never pronounce “Monet,” so they reverted to calling him that.
Monet
Monet was a special cat, and Anna had always said that. She told Joanna that he had unique intuition that other animals didn’t have. Joanna always humored her but didn’t believe in superstitions herself.
He was named Monet, after the famous French painter. The Du Bois had their roots in France. Anna was born just after the great painter died and was always obsessed with him. Her obsession didn’t leave her after she moved to New Orleans.
