She knew that her stepdad would be coming home before anyone else. She knew what to do, she took off her robe.

She had been scheming for a while and knew that her plan would work. She closed the door to her room, knowing very well that he wouldn’t knock. She knew he was surprised by what he found once he opened the door.

Two Houses

Nicky was only sixteen when she first met her stepfather. She was a child of divorce at a young age and didn’t enjoy being pushed into the living situation she was in. Nicky was still happy that her parents could move on with their lives, but it felt like she was left behind.

Their divorce meant that Nicky’s world was split in two along with two houses that she had to live in. And each parent was different, it was so disorienting getting accustomed to two different households. And not to mention the new person in her life – her stepdad.

Her Dad’s Relationship

Nicky’s father was the first to move on after they divorced. He even managed to keep somewhat of a friendship alive with her mother even though he was the first to start dating.

When Nicky saw her father smile when he spoke about his new relationship, she couldn’t help but be happy for him. And soon after, her mother managed to move on and find someone too. Nicky was hopeful for her future.

Finding Love

Nicky’s mother would eventually meet a man named Steve. He came from Silicon Valley and was a lead game designer. His newest project meant that his company was based in New Orleans.

The way that her mother described Steve and smiled just like her father meant that she couldn’t help but feel happy for her as well. Her eyes really shone when she said his name. But the fateful meeting of the new stepdad would change everything.

Another House

After dating for two years, Steve finally proposed to Nicky’s mom. This meant that the two soon moved in together in Steve’s house in New Orleans.

After two years, Nicky did enjoy having a new role model in her life, but as she got older they would soon start getting on each other’s nerves. This would lead Nicky to come up with a plan that she thought would change things for good.
