The teacher was busy getting ready to address her class when she heard a strange noise. It was coming from her class, but where? She was accustomed to her classroom of students being rowdy from time to time, but she never expected to hear what she did.

There it was again. It sounded like an animal in distress. The students knew that they were not allowed to bring live animals to school. Did one of her students think he was above the school regulations?

She had spent her time teaching at a new school in California. Little did she know the type of students she would encounter there.

She was a native of California and spent time participating in various cultural groups. She thought that she had a good understanding of different people and religions. But she met someone who would change that for her.

Dani was an intelligent young woman who intended to further her studies. She had just applied for her Masters in Education. Although she was more than busy, she had to sacrifice for her future and took up substitute teaching to pay for her daily expenditure and studies.

After looking in the newspaper’s classified section for weeks, she finally found a position that suited her. It was for a high school, they were looking for a Spanish Teacher, and that was precisely her forte. She was excited to start and ensured all her material was ready for the morning.

Dani had a proud feeling as she walked into class. The students noticed the new teacher and immediately kept quiet. Dani greeted them and took a mental note of all the smiling faces.

The students seemed to be quiet and well-mannered. She proceeded to start the roll call. The students responded, “Present,” as they were taught to say. “What a well-mannered class!” teacher Dani thought to herself. But she thought this too soon.

Dani continued reading the names, then, all of a sudden, she heard a strange noise. It sounded like the Meow of a cat. She looked up from her paper and scouted the class; all the students were still seated quietly.

Dani was confused about where the noise was coming from. She was just about to start reading again when she heard it again. The children were giggling. “Pardon me, children, but who is making that sound?” Dani questioned the class.
